Kenzie and I were ready to join 2 more of our friends from 22103. We jumped on a train to Central. This was Kenzie's first time on a train.
She's been on the underground Metro, but this train had views of rundown housing and graffiti you can't see anywhere else. Ok, it wasn't all bad.
We left the station and began walking in what we hoped was the right direction. We heard people calling out. It was 2 of our 22103 roomies! Taylor from Brisbane and Crystal from Bendigo!
Now we knew we were on the right track.
We reached our hotel in no time. The Ultimo is a recently renovated hotel. It made a great first impression.
The lift is still undergoing refurbishments, but porters kindly transported our suitcases to our room, which housed 4 comfortable beds.
It was also home to a trendy exposed brick wall and colourful, abstract artwork.
The bathroom was a decent size with a cool, geometric pattern on the wall.
The Ultimo is situated in a fabulous location. Right near Woolies (we informed our American friend, Kenzie that nobody says Woolworths), so you can grab a bunch of snacks.
And you can check out the Great Wall of Tim Tams.
We made the most of the hotel's Chinatown location.
A few staff members were standing out the front of the Yin Li Sichuan Chinese Restaurant. We briefly browsed the menu, but once we realised one of the staff members was wearing a Toy Story shirt we knew it was fate.
We walked up the stairs to slightly strange tables. The tops were high. The chairs were low. And there was only a narrow gap between our legs and the lip of the table. The rest of the dining experience more normal than the tables.
For $35 each we shared spring rolls, honey chicken, fried rice, Mongolian beef, sweet and sour chicken and a bottle of Moscato.
Crystal and I gave up on the chopstick diet and used the serving utensils provided with the dishes.
It was time for our next night spot. The Covent Garden Hotel exposed our ears to some horrific karaoke and a quick bevvie for some.
We found the Great Southern Bar a better place for conversation.
2 more people joined our conversation - Jake and Pete. I don't seem to have a photo of them, but here's a sneaky snap of their red, red wine.
We talked about America and faux skydiving in Penrith. Then the newcomers recommended Side Bar down the road. The time arrived to move onto another night spot. Sure, it might be daylight savings, but we were making the most of the night.
I wish I could say Side Bar played awesome music, but I will say it was a great place for a boogie and most importantly, it was free!
Our new friends Jake and Pete farewelled us. Crystal, Taylor, Kenzie and I stayed a little longer until our eardrums blew out. We headed back to The Ultimo with a quick KFC pitstop. I resisted the Colonel's secret herbs and spicy charm.
Tonight we would sleep in the same room. It was almost like that time we all had a sleepover in the lounge room of our 22103 Orlando apartment. Except Anna still hadn't joined our reunion and neither had Kenzie's suitcase, despite the previous day's empty promise and our many minutes on hold.
Stay tuned to find out about our adventures around Circular Quay, Anna's arrival and attempts to reunite Kenzie with her suitcase.
