Last Friday Night (and Saturday)

Last Friday night began with a trip to Emu Plains station with Ryan. Not so we could get on a train, but so we could hand out flyers for Jesus Christ Superstar

Bec and her children Bella, Jonah and Finn were there too. Together we were the Emu Crew.

Commuters could not resist the charm of Ryan and I.

Following the flyer fun Bec and her clan went home for a delightful dinner of kale and sneezing. Ryan and I chose O'Donoghues. It had been a while since I'd stepped into that pub. The renovations have drastically improved the vibe.

The food was quite delicious too. My beef and sweet potato salad was dressed with something delectable and sweet. I could look up the menu to confirm what it was, but I prefer to think of it as magic. Ryan's schnitty was up there, but not as good as one he'd had in Surry Hills.

Saturday was dedicated to Springwood's annual Foundation Day. This time Catrin was part of the carpool with Ryan and I.

After just one trip down a no through road we were at Foundation Day. I'm not entirely sure of the origins of this day, but I can tell you the main street is shut off to traffic, and stalls are set up.

Find showbags.

Listen to some tunes.

Buy a sausage sandwich.

Dip into some Dots.

Drink from a light bulb.

Put out a fire.

At each annual event Blue Mountains Musical Society hand out flyers, provide information and sell tickets.

We also performed on stage, which Ryan, Amy, half of Micah's face and I were super pumped about.

If you missed the performance you could catch us being a little bit extra at the stall.

After our standard musical theatre antics some of us took a few pit stops on the way to a Jesus Christ Superstar (2000) viewing party. First was the Lappo (Lapstone Hotel). Then came the drive through bottle-o. Always drink responsibly and buy your alcohol fabulously.

Next stop was the servo for a few snacks. Holly, Erin, Catrin and Ryan were having a blast in the chip aisle. Aarin was at the servo too, but was probably caught up conversing with a block of chocolate.

Our final stop was the home of Nathan (the bearded bald guy on the right).

At first we were concerned we'd have to travel thousands of kilometres to Jesus' place in Spain because that's where the Facebook event was directing us. With great relief we realised Jamisontown was just around the corner. Nathan, his wife Laura and his daughter Evie kindly welcomed us into their home. Evie even baked some magnetic eggs in her toy oven for some of the guests, as well as a plush mushroom and tomato soup. The rest of us had the snacks from the servo.

Meanwhile, poor Anne was trapped in the lounge. I think she might still be there.

While waiting for others to arrive Evie entertained us with the Alphabet Song. Then... Behold! The rest of the viewing crew arrived and the 2000 version of Jesus Christ Superstar was on.

Everyone appreciated Jesus' luscious locks, Simon's frosted tips, and the cage dancing, but agree BMMS' version is far superior. We're all a little bit biased, so you should definitely come to the show and judge for yourself.

It's Showtime: Jesus Christ Superstar

Witness Blue Mountains Musical Society nailing Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar from May 20 to June 4.

Don't be fooled by song titles, such as Everything's Alright because everything about this show is beyond phenomenal. The Jessica Lovelace directed rock musical promises a grunge, post-apocalyptic aesthetic with a vibrant surprise.

Sure, this musical tells the story of Jesus and Judas, but it's not exactly a biblically accurate retelling. Remember when Jesus had face tats, the apostles wore cargo pants, and the prostitutes of The Temple slinked sultrily in combat boots? Yeah, me either. But this May and June you can see that and so much more on stage thanks to the fabulous costumes by Linda Aubrecht, and amazing makeup designs by Holly Benton, Gabriella Stockwell and Jessica Lovelace.

I had the personal privilege of being cast as a featured prostitute dancer.

You can't sit with us... but you can sit in the audience and watch us dance a variety of styles choreographed by Emma Joseph including Jazz, Lyrical, Cabaret and a smattering of Hip Hop.

10 beautiful dancers will perform before you, but only one can be chosen as BMMS's Next Top Dancer.

Come for the dancing, but stay for the crucifixion emotionally evocative music directed by Matthew Lovelace. Experience the gamut of emotion, from the anguish of Gethsemane to the jubilation of Simon Zealotes

Everyone at BMMS hopes you'll see the production we've been whipping up. See Jesus Christ Superstar once, and you'll wish you could see it 39 times.

Celebrating Celeste

On Tuesday some friends gathered for a picnic at Regatta Park to celebrate the stylishly flawless Celeste's birthday.

Here we have different interpretations of "candid photos".

It was a picnic, so of course we needed food. Daniel/Donny/Doo Doo/Donny Doo Doo fired up the BBQ.

I was pretty pumped to have a sausage sandwich for the first time in forever. For my American readers who might think sausage sandwiches are the same as hotdogs, I grabbed photos of the ingredients. You need a slice of white bread, a sausage, onion and tomato sauce (even though this bottle said ketchup). The bread to sausage to sauce to onion ratio is very important.

Delicious.

We all forced Celeste to make a speech because it was her birthday and the guests get whatever they want. That's how birthdays work, right?

There was no cake, but there were many substitutes, like the shots, blocks of chocolate, and the double layer, white bread cake with cork candle that Annastasia created.

When Ryan and I first arrived at the picnic we scoffed at nature, but by the end Mother Earth was our friend.

There were leaf hair accessories with Jacqui D.W.Yeah!

Stick dancing with the Carpool Crew.

Stick wars (or a nature inspired interpretive jig) with Annastasia and Lachie.

I'd be lying if I said I knew exactly what was happening here. Alkira was behind the camera and I have every confidence she was equally confused.

Lachie convinced Liam that "The Koala" was a good idea. Liam had no idea what to expect.

Jacqui gave it a go too, not quite reaching the same heights as Lachie.

Meanwhile John, Donny and Alex were hoping to further their styling, modelling and Charlie Angels career paths.

Thanks for a super fun celebration, Celeste. I hope 26 brings more love, adventure and excitement than you can imagine. You deserve all that and so much more. Xo
