Suit and Thai: Chilli Jam

I wish I'd worn a suit, so the title of this post made sense. What I did actually do, however, is eat at a fabulous Penrith Thai restaurant - Chilli Jam.

My mum and I were welcomed by potted posies and a bike nobody could ride. But that's ok because I've never met a bike I could ride without training wheels.

A friendly member of the waitstaff led us to our table. A single tea light candle burning in the bright daylight of a heavily windowed restaurant was a pointless contribution to the great atmosphere, but the effort was appreciated. Plus I used the tiny light in the background of my foodie photo.

This was my wagyu beef salad. Yes, salad because of that incident where I lived in America and gained 10kg. I'm still paying for my reckless nutritional abandonment. The lime and chilli accents of this succulent, fresh cuisine were enough to prevent me from talking.

After communicating through socially acceptable moaning how delicious my salad was, it was time to try my mum's Pad Thai, whether she wanted me to or not.

Earlier I captured a photo of mum with her food before she even tasted it. I risked just taking one pre meal image with the direction, "pick up the chopsticks and smile at your food like you're enjoying it".

Full disclosure: she did not eat with the chopsticks, but the risk of capturing one photo paid off. The dish gained high praise from the connoisseur whose solitary cooking advice to me has been, "The only thing I've learnt in cooking is you butter your toast right to the edges." Mum was impressed with the high prawn to everything else ratio.

While sampling the delectable Prawn Pad Thai  I realised quite possibly the best feature of the dish. The bowl had a handle!! I bet you can imagine my excitement. But if you can't, here's a photo.

There's so much to love about Chilli Jam in Westfield Penrith. Their only fault? A refusal to split bills, just like many other Aussie eateries. This leaves you with the choices to take cash, transfer money or dine with a generous parent. Thanks mum! I also forgot the illegal dine and dash option.

Thank you Chilli Jam for a wonderful dining experience.
